Accessing The Network (H)ome Or (S)hared Drive
Overview:
This article describes how to access the University network drives while connected to the University’s network.
Information:
For Windows and Mac users, please make sure you are connected on the University Campus Network. If off-site, you must be connected via VPN on your computer before proceeding. Alternatively, you can utilize Google Drive and share the files without using VPN. All you need is an active and stable Internet connection. Students do not have access to any of the University network drive resources nor do they have a home network drive. Student only utilizes Google Drive.

Windows

Chromebook
For Windows:
As soon as you log in using your credentials, the department network drive is automatically mapped and can be accessed by going to My Computer. It is often mapped to the “S” drive. If for any reason, it didn’t map, follow the instructions below:

- Press the Windows + R keys together to get to the Run Dialog box.
- In the text box, enter “\\fs1\shared\” AND the department network folder in question
- Click OK or press Enter.
Or Follow these steps:
- Press the Windows + R keys together to get to the Run Dialog box.
- In the text box, enter “\\fs1\shared\” AND the department network folder in question
- Click OK or press Enter.
NOTE:
- One needs to log in with a network account that has already have access to the network drive.
- If successful, a new Windows folder will open up containing the network files.
- If unsuccessful, either you’re
- Not on the University network (need VPN)
- No stable Internet access
- Do not have rights/permissions OR
- Mistyped the the directory path – \\fs1\shared\%department network folder%
For Mac:
Here are the instructions for mapping to the department network drive:
- On Finder, click on Go\Connect To Server

2.Under Server Address, enter “\\fs1\shared\” AND the department network folder in question

- Click the “+” button to add to Favorites
- Click Connect
- A new window will open up. Enter your credentials with your username prefixed with “SPC\” and password case-sensitive.
NOTE:
